All at Mr Underhill’s would like to wish you the best for 2012 and hope you had a geat festive break however you spent it. We managed to relax and catch-up on sleep for a few days before preparing for builders,plumbers, electricians, old uncle Tom Cobly etc. on Tuesday – stage 2 of our up-grade. Week 1 sees us ahead of schedule despite erratic power supplies due to ultra modern fuse boards being installed – without ‘phones or computer we were unable to handle all the inquiries and are still catching up, sorry if you are waiting for a response but we will get back to you asap.
Somehow we managed to open for dinner last night, it was great to have some normality, one lovely couple, for whom dinner had been a gift from their children, were telling me that they returned home on Xmas Eve to discover their tree re-decorated with gold stars and michelin men cut-outs + a card for their dinner with us, I wish I could have seen it.

This is the time year when the salmon come up river to spawn and to see them leaping our weir is a stunning sight. The river was very low so a salmon ladder was installed to help them along their way. Our heron took up residence alongside it treating it as his personal sushi bar,catching the tiny trout also travelling up river. One our regulars was trying to get pictures when he saw a salmon leap straight into the heron’s legs sending him tumbling into the churning waters loosing both the fish and his diginity. A few years ago when the river was also vey low the fish decided here was far enough and started spawning, the river baliffs protecting them ask us to switch off our floodlight, they need more privacy to do their business!

RE-STYLE STAGE 2

In January we will change our four bedrooms into 2 deluxe suite-rooms, each one will have a sitting room and spa bathroom. The bathrooms will have pool baths and steam rooms for the ultimate in pampering. These rooms will available from mid February alongside our other two existing suites, just call us for more details.

We have had feedback from some of our guests that they have had difficulty using gift vouchers in some establishments. We have always gone to great lengths to ensure all our vouchers are redeemed.
We have tweaked our system to make sure it continues to work for everyone.

We can only issue vouchers for the restaurant once a date has been arranged.
We suggest you tell or give a card to whoever you wish to give the gift to, asking for some dates that will suit them.
Once a date is booked we will issue a voucher and only at this stage will you be charged.
Please call us if you would like us to send restaurant info and gift details to you or the person you are giving it to.

Just catching our breath – somehow we completely finished the restaurant re-style in October. We are delighted with the end result and with guests compliments, will post some pics asap.

We are taking a break to re-style the restaurant Stage 1 of our overall
up-grade, we re-open on Thursday 20th October. Yes, you are correct we are not planning to retire or move! just make what we have fresher and better. Fortunately Billy our almost resident feline orphan has taken on the roll of site watchman, having had a wealth of experience overseeing the castle and numerous house renovations in Ludlow, hopefully I will able to attach a picture of him at work.

This is not an April fool, at last we are ready for 2011! Traditonally for the start of each year we almost sink under non-stop phone calls whilst trying to complete any upgrading of rooms, restaurant, food and wine. This year has proved the most challenging ever, but we’ve made it and can now focus on the day to day delights of running a restaurant with rooms. We are celebrating the 30th anniversary of Mr Underhills this year and hope you will be able join us.
